As an economics major in undergraduate school, I had thought of working in the financial arena but did not exactly picture myself working on an equity research team. Moreover, looking back five years ago, I was serving in the Korean Navy as an intelligence officer and the field of my current work was not well known then. When I first joined a leading chemical company as an investor relation manager, I learned the dynamics of equity research field through many analyst contacts. It was then that I began to consider a career in investment research.
The transition from one place to another can be difficult: getting into the finance field at an investment bank like Goldman Sachs gives you a set of unique challenges you’ve probably never experienced. I believe a strong commitment for the finance industry and humility is essential before considering this path as a career.
