I am a member of the Global Investment Research team in the New York office of Goldman Sachs. At the end of the day, our goal in research is to help institutional investors – our clients – make the right investment decisions on behalf of their clients. We are responsible for understanding industry and market dynamics within our respective sectors, which in my case is Semiconductors and Semiconductor Capital Equipment.

The most interesting part of my job is being able to piece together various sources of information in order to form a differentiated investment opinion. I also get to travel a fair amount, both domestically and internationally, for industry conferences and company meetings. I enjoy working on a team as it helps broaden my horizons. Everyone on the team has something new to bring to the table, which allows me to learn much more than I would have been able to learn alone.

Goldman’s policy is “find the best place for the best people.” I have seen a number of my colleagues pursue opportunities within the firm, outside of the division they originally joined. The firm is generally very receptive to retaining good people and finding the right spot for them.
